If you are deciding where to sell workshop recordings or mini-courses, start by matching the platform to the way buyers will access the content.
If you have a recorded workshop, workshop replay, short training series, or small video bundle, you may not need a full online course platform right away. This guide compares Payhip, Gumroad, Podia, Teachable, Thinkific, Systeme.io, LearnWorlds and other options to help you choose where to sell a mini-course or workshop recording.
The best choice depends on what you are actually selling: a simple replay, a mini-course, a live workshop, or a structured course with lessons, quizzes and student progress.

Quick Answer
Selling one simple workshop recording? Start with Payhip for lower-cost testing or Gumroad for the fastest setup. Choose Podia if you want a more polished mini-course, Thinkific for structured lessons, or Systeme.io if you need funnels and email automation. For advanced learning features such as assessments and certificates, consider LearnWorlds.

Workshop Recording vs Mini-Course vs Full Course
Not every workshop recording needs a full online course platform. If you are selling one recorded session with a PDF or slide deck, a lightweight checkout and delivery tool may be enough. If your product includes multiple lessons, student progress, quizzes or certificates, a dedicated course platform will usually provide a better learning experience.
| Product type | What it usually includes | Platform need |
|---|---|---|
| Workshop replay | One recorded session, slides or PDF | Simple checkout + protected access |
| Replay bundle | Video, workbook, bonus file | Digital product delivery |
| Mini-course | 3–10 short lessons | Course structure + checkout |
| Full online course | Modules, lessons, quizzes, certificates | Dedicated course platform |
| Live workshop | Live session, registration, replay | Ticketing + video + email |
How to Decide Where to Sell Workshop Recordings & Mini-Courses
A $29 workshop replay has different needs from a $199 structured mini-course. If you are testing demand, low upfront cost and fast setup may matter most. If you already have an audience, course structure, checkout, student access and email follow-up become more important.
Do not only ask, “Where can I upload the replay?” Also ask, “What happens after someone buys?”
Ask these questions before choosing:
Will the product grow later? Consider whether you may add coaching, memberships, live cohorts or more courses.
What are you selling now? One recording, a replay bundle, a mini-course or a structured course?
How should buyers access it? As a downloadable file or through a student dashboard?
Do you need learning features? Lessons, progress tracking, quizzes or certificates?
How will you follow up? Through confirmation emails, email sequences or future offers?
Who handles tax and VAT? The platform, the payment processor or you?
What will it really cost? Include monthly fees, transaction fees and payment processing.
A workshop recording is often the first step rather than the final product. The right platform should work for what you are selling today without creating unnecessary cost or complexity, while still giving you a practical path to grow.
How We Tested These Platforms
We created sample products and test setups in Payhip, Gumroad, Podia, Teachable, Thinkific, Systeme.io and LearnWorlds. Rather than relying only on feature lists, we compared how each platform handles the practical steps involved in selling a workshop recording or mini-course.
- Product setup and ease of use
- Video, PDF and lesson delivery
- Course structure and student experience
- Checkout, email and funnel features
- Platform fees and public pricing
- Tax and VAT tools described in official documentation
- Suitability for different creator use cases
Our hands-on testing focused on setup and product-building workflows. We did not process a live customer purchase on every platform, so payment, tax and payout details were verified using each platform’s public documentation.
Pricing, features and policies can change. We provide a “last checked” date and recommend confirming current details on the platform’s official website before making a final decision.
Tax, VAT and Merchant of Record
If you sell digital products internationally, platform fees are only part of the cost. You also need to know who calculates, collects and remits sales tax, VAT or GST.
A Merchant of Record is generally the legal seller responsible for processing the customer transaction and handling applicable indirect taxes. A platform that only calculates or collects tax is not necessarily the Merchant of Record, and you may still be responsible for registration, reporting or remittance.
| Platform | Tax / VAT handling to know |
|---|---|
| Gumroad | Acts as Merchant of Record and states that it handles applicable sales-tax collection and remittance worldwide. Creators may still have local reporting obligations, so confirm the treatment required in your jurisdiction. |
| Payhip | Handles digital EU and UK VAT. Since July 1, 2026, Payhip also collects and remits US sales tax and Canadian GST/HST and PST; Quebec QST is not yet fully covered. Seller responsibility may remain for other taxes or jurisdictions. |
| Podia | Can help calculate and collect sales tax, but Podia states that it does not file or remit those taxes for the creator. |
| Teachable | Tax handling depends on the payment gateway, country and payment setup. Confirm what is calculated, collected and remitted for your specific configuration. |
| Thinkific | Through Thinkific Payments, qualifying US and Canadian sales tax can be calculated, collected and remitted. EU and UK VAT support differs, so creators should confirm their remaining obligations. |
| Systeme.io | Tax and VAT responsibility depends on the seller’s location, checkout setup and payment processor. Confirm the current requirements before selling internationally. |
| LearnWorlds | Integrates with tools such as Stripe Tax and Quaderno for tax calculation and reporting. The creator may still be responsible for registration, filing and remittance. |
| Eventbrite | Tax handling and fees vary by country, event type and payment setup. Check the local organizer terms before selling tickets. |
| YouTube Unlisted + Payment Link | YouTube is not the checkout provider. Tax handling depends entirely on the payment platform used to sell access. |
Important: “Tax calculation,” “tax collection” and “tax remittance” are different services. Always check exactly which responsibilities the platform handles in your country and payment configuration.
This information is provided for general comparison and is not tax or legal advice. Platform policies can change, and creators should confirm current information in the platform’s official documentation or with a qualified tax professional.
Detailed Platform Reviews
Below, we compare each platform based on its best use case, setup experience, pricing structure, strengths and limitations. Each review ends with a clear “choose it if” and “skip it if” recommendation.

1. Payhip
Best for low-risk testing and simple replay sales.
Payhip at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Simple workshop replays, video bundles, PDF workbooks, template packs and digital downloads |
| Starting price | $0/month + 5% transaction fee |
| Platform types | Digital downloads, courses, coaching and memberships |
| Key strength | Low-cost and beginner-friendly setup |
| Key limitation | Less advanced than a dedicated LMS |
Why Payhip works
- No monthly fee is required to start.
- All plans include the same core features.
- Supports digital downloads, courses, coaching and memberships.
- Works well for a replay combined with a PDF, workbook or bonus files.
- Handles digital EU and UK VAT and applicable US and Canadian sales taxes, with a current limitation for Quebec QST.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Payhip’s digital product flow was quick and beginner-friendly. After selecting “Digital Product,” we could add a PDF workbook, title, price, cover image, description and visibility setting from one product setup screen. Payhip also provided PayPal and Stripe connection options and a default currency setting.

For a simple workshop recording with a workbook or slide deck, this setup felt faster and more appropriate than building a complete course structure.
Payhip pricing
Free Forever: $0/month + 5% transaction fee
Plus: $29/month + 2% transaction fee
Pro: $99/month with no Payhip transaction fee
Stripe and PayPal payment-processing fees still apply on every plan.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Payhip falls short
- The student experience is less advanced than platforms such as Thinkific or LearnWorlds.
- It is not the strongest option for complex assessments or detailed learning analytics.
- Payhip is not a worldwide Merchant of Record, so sellers should verify their remaining tax obligations outside the regions it covers.
- The 5% platform fee becomes more noticeable as sales grow.
Our verdict
Payhip is one of the strongest low-risk options for selling a first workshop replay, especially when the product is one recording combined with downloadable resources.
Should you choose Payhip?
Choose Payhip if: you are selling a simple workshop replay, video bundle or downloadable learning product and want an easy setup with low upfront cost.
Skip Payhip if: your product needs a structured curriculum, detailed student progress, advanced assessments or a premium LMS-style learning experience.
Free plan available; a 5% transaction fee applies.

2. Gumroad
Best for fast setup and lightweight digital products.
Gumroad at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Simple workshop replays, video bundles and digital downloads |
| Starting price | $0 per month |
| Direct-sales fee | 10% + $0.50 per transaction |
| Key strength | Fast and simple product setup |
| Key limitation | High fees and limited course structure |
| Tax handling | Gumroad acts as Merchant of Record |
Why Gumroad works
- No monthly subscription is required.
- A simple digital product can be created quickly.
- Supports videos, PDFs, audio files and other downloadable resources.
- Handles global sales-tax collection and remittance as Merchant of Record.
- Offers Discover marketplace exposure, although sales through Discover carry a much higher fee.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Gumroad made it quick to create a simple digital product. The setup flow included product type, name, description, price, cover image, product URL and content-delivery settings.

The workflow felt suitable for testing a workshop replay or downloadable learning product, but it was less course-like than platforms designed around lessons and student progress.
Gumroad pricing
- Monthly fee: $0
- Sales through your profile or direct links: 10% + $0.50 per transaction
- Sales through Gumroad Discover: 30% per transaction
Gumroad states that credit-card processing is not included in the direct-sales fee. The fixed $0.50 charge also has a larger effect on lower-priced products.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Gumroad falls short
- The direct-sales fee is high compared with Payhip’s free plan.
- The fixed $0.50 charge affects low-priced products more heavily.
- It is not designed for structured lessons, student progress, quizzes or certificates.
- The storefront and student experience are less customizable than dedicated course platforms.
Our verdict
Gumroad is a practical option when speed and simplicity matter more than course structure or lower transaction fees. Its Merchant of Record model can reduce international tax administration, but creators pay for that convenience through a relatively high transaction fee.
Should you choose Gumroad?
Choose Gumroad if: you want to launch a simple replay, video bundle or digital product quickly and value Merchant of Record tax handling more than having the lowest transaction fee.
Skip Gumroad if: you sell low-priced or low-margin products, expect growing sales volume, or need structured lessons and a polished student dashboard.
No monthly subscription; transaction fees apply.

3. Podia
Best for polished mini-courses and creator businesses that want several tools in one platform.
Podia at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Polished mini-courses, workshop replays and creator products |
| Starting price | $42/month when billed annually |
| Product types | Courses, downloads, coaching, communities and events |
| Key strength | Course delivery, website, checkout and email tools in one platform |
| Key limitation | More expensive than lightweight replay-selling tools |
Why Podia works
- Supports structured courses with sections, lessons, videos, text and quizzes.
- Provides a cleaner student experience than basic file-delivery platforms.
- Combines a website, landing pages, checkout, product delivery and email tools.
- Can support a workshop replay as it grows into a mini-course, coaching offer or broader creator business.
- Includes a 30-day trial without requiring a credit card.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Podia felt more course-focused than Payhip or Gumroad. After selecting “Course,” the product editor provided sections, video lessons, text lessons and quizzes, together with separate settings for product details, pricing and availability.

This structure made Podia better suited to turning a workshop recording into a guided mini-course instead of delivering it as one large video file.
Podia pricing
- Mover: $42/month, 5% Podia transaction fee
- Shaker: $84/month, no Podia transaction fee
- Earthquaker: $150/month, no Podia transaction fee
- Trial: 30 days, with no credit card required
Stripe or PayPal payment-processing fees still apply. Podia helps calculate and collect applicable sales taxes, but creators remain responsible for filing and remitting them.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Podia falls short
- It can be more platform than necessary for one simple replay or downloadable video.
- The Mover plan combines a monthly subscription with a 5% transaction fee.
- It is less suitable than a dedicated LMS for advanced assessments, detailed learning analytics or complex training programs.
- Podia does not file or remit collected sales taxes for the creator.
Our verdict
Podia offers one of the best balances between simple digital-product tools and heavier course platforms. It is most valuable when presentation, student experience and integrated creator tools matter more than minimizing upfront cost.
Should you choose Podia?
Choose Podia if: you want to turn a workshop replay into a polished mini-course and need course delivery, checkout, a website and basic email tools in one platform.
Skip Podia if: you only need to sell one downloadable recording, want the lowest possible starting cost, or require advanced LMS features and detailed learning analytics.
30-day free trial; no permanent free plan.

4. Teachable
Best for creators building a structured course business with room to add more products.
Teachable at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Structured courses, coaching, memberships and digital products |
| Starting price | $29/month when billed annually |
| Product limit | 5 products on Starter |
| Key strength | Course delivery combined with sales and student-management tools |
| Key limitation | Plan limits and a 7.5% transaction fee on Starter |
Why Teachable works
- Supports structured lessons, quizzes, drip content and course certificates.
- Includes student access through iOS and Android apps.
- Provides checkout tools, coupons, upsells and abandoned-cart features.
- Can support courses, coaching, memberships and digital downloads.
- Offers global payment and tax-handling tools through its supported payment setup.
- Gives creators room to grow from one mini-course into a larger product library.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Teachable felt more course-business focused than Payhip, Gumroad or Podia. Its curriculum area included sections, lessons and bulk-upload tools, while the product settings covered pricing, sales pages, coupons, upsells, students and reports.

This made Teachable better suited to creators building structured learning products and multiple offers than to someone selling one simple workshop recording.
Teachable pricing
- Starter: $29/month billed annually or $39 monthly; 7.5% transaction fee; up to 5 products
- Builder: $69/month billed annually or $89 monthly; 0% Teachable transaction fee; up to 10 products
- Growth: $139/month billed annually or $189 monthly; 0% Teachable transaction fee; up to 50 products
- Custom: Custom pricing for higher-volume education businesses
- Trial: Seven days
Standard payment-processing fees still apply. The advertised 0% Teachable transaction fee depends on using an eligible Teachable payment setup.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Teachable falls short
- It is more complex than necessary for one simple replay or video bundle.
- Starter combines a monthly subscription with a 7.5% transaction fee.
- Product and active-student limits vary significantly by plan.
- The cost rises quickly when a creator needs more products, students or advanced business features.
Our verdict
Teachable is a strong option for creators who are building a course business rather than selling one standalone replay. Its structured learning, sales and student-management features provide more room to grow, but that flexibility comes with higher cost and plan limits.
Should you choose Teachable?
Choose Teachable if: you want to build structured courses, coaching or memberships and need integrated sales tools, certificates and a platform that can support several products over time.
Skip Teachable if: you only need to sell one simple recording, want minimal monthly cost, or expect the Starter plan’s transaction fee and product limits to restrict your business.
7-day free trial; no permanent free plan.

5. Thinkific
Best for structured courses, learning paths and long-term education businesses.
Thinkific at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Structured mini-courses, full courses and course libraries |
| Starting price | $40/month when billed annually |
| Trial | 30 days; no permanent free plan |
| Key strength | Strong curriculum builder and student-learning tools |
| Key limitation | More platform and expense than a simple replay usually needs |
Why Thinkific works
- Supports chapters, lessons, quizzes, discussions and student-progress tracking.
- Offers multiple lesson formats, including video, text, PDF, audio and downloads.
- Includes unlimited published courses from the Basic plan.
- Provides sales and student dashboards, checkout tools and a custom domain.
- Higher plans add certificates, assignments, memberships, subscriptions and live cohorts.
- Can support both a first structured course and a larger learning-product library.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Thinkific felt more structured than Payhip, Gumroad or Podia. Its curriculum builder organized content into chapters and lessons, with support for formats such as video, text, PDF, quizzes, audio and downloads.

This made Thinkific better suited to turning a workshop recording into an organized learning path, although the setup was heavier than what most creators need for one standalone replay.
Thinkific pricing
- Basic: $40/month billed annually or $54 monthly
- Start: $82/month billed annually or $109 monthly
- Grow: $164/month billed annually or $219 monthly
- Plus: Custom pricing
- Trial: 30 days
Basic includes unlimited courses, video lessons, quizzes and one community. Completion certificates, assignments, memberships and live cohorts require the Start plan or higher.
Thinkific Payments has standard processing fees. Creators who use third-party processors such as Stripe or PayPal may also pay an additional gateway fee that varies by plan and country.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Thinkific falls short
- It is more expensive and complex than necessary for one simple workshop replay.
- Certificates, assignments and several advanced learning features are not included in Basic.
- Third-party payment-gateway fees can apply depending on the creator’s plan and country.
- Its stronger course structure requires more setup than lightweight digital-product tools.
Our verdict
Thinkific is a strong choice when the learning structure matters as much as the sale. It provides more curriculum depth than lightweight platforms, but its cost and setup may be difficult to justify for a single recording with downloadable resources.
Should you choose Thinkific?
Choose Thinkific if: you are building a structured course with chapters, multiple lesson formats and student-progress tracking, or expect to grow into a course library, membership or learning business.
Skip Thinkific if: you only need checkout and delivery for one recording, want the lowest possible cost, or do not need structured learning and student-management tools.
30-day free trial; no permanent free plan.

6. Systeme.io
Best for selling a workshop or mini-course through funnels and email automation.
Systeme.io at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Funnels, email automation and course sales |
| Starting price | $0 with a permanent free plan |
| Free-plan limits | 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels and 1 course |
| Key strength | Funnels, email, checkout and course delivery in one platform |
| Key limitation | Less focused on the learning experience than dedicated course platforms |
Why Systeme.io works
- Includes a permanent free plan without requiring a credit card.
- Combines landing pages, sales funnels, email campaigns and course delivery.
- Supports automation rules, tags, campaigns, upsells and order bumps.
- Allows unlimited emails, file storage and students on every plan.
- Charges no Systeme.io transaction fee on any plan.
- Works particularly well when a workshop replay leads to another product, coaching offer or email sequence.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, Systeme.io felt more funnel-focused than education-focused platforms. The funnel builder created an order-form and thank-you-page flow, while the automation area could add tags, subscribe buyers to campaigns, send emails and enroll contacts in a course.

This makes Systeme.io more useful when a workshop recording is part of a broader sales process rather than a standalone learning product.
Systeme.io pricing
- Free: $0; 2,000 contacts, 3 funnels and 1 course
- Startup: $17/month; 5,000 contacts, unlimited funnels and 5 courses
- Webinar: $47/month; 10,000 contacts and automated webinars
- Unlimited: $97/month; unlimited contacts and broader account limits
- Annual billing: Two months free
Systeme.io does not charge a platform transaction fee. Payment processors still charge their own standard fees. Systeme.io is not presented as Merchant of Record, so creators should confirm their own tax and VAT responsibilities.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Systeme.io falls short
- Course delivery is less advanced than Thinkific or LearnWorlds.
- It is not the strongest option for assessments, certificates or detailed student-progress reporting.
- Its many marketing tools may feel unnecessary if you only need checkout and file delivery.
- International tax registration, reporting and remittance may remain the creator’s responsibility.
Our verdict
Systeme.io offers unusually strong value for creators who need funnels, email automation and course delivery together. Its free plan makes it practical for testing a workshop funnel, but the learning experience is not as advanced as a dedicated course platform.
Should you choose Systeme.io?
Choose Systeme.io if: your workshop or mini-course is part of a funnel with landing pages, email sequences, upsells or coaching offers, and you want these tools in one platform.
Skip Systeme.io if: your priority is a premium classroom experience, advanced assessments, certificates or detailed learning analytics.
Free plan available; usage limits apply.

7. LearnWorlds
Best for advanced, interactive and premium learning experiences.
LearnWorlds at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Premium courses, professional training and advanced learning experiences |
| Starting price | $24/month when billed annually |
| Starter fee | $5 per course enrollment |
| Key strength | Assessments, certificates, interactive content and progress tracking |
| Key limitation | Many important features require Pro Trainer or higher |
Why LearnWorlds works
- Supports tests, quizzes, assignments and multiple assessment formats.
- Offers certificates, SCORM content and detailed progress reporting on higher plans.
- Provides interactive-video tools and advanced course-completion rules.
- Supports live sessions, communities, memberships and learning programs.
- Includes website, checkout and marketing functionality alongside course delivery.
- Works well for professional training, certification-style products and higher-value courses.
Our hands-on experience
In our setup test, LearnWorlds felt more learning-experience focused than lightweight checkout tools. Its progress settings supported completion rules for interactive videos, certificates, exams, SCORM activities, forms, meetings and presentations.

These controls make LearnWorlds more suitable for structured or premium learning programs than for selling one simple workshop recording.
LearnWorlds pricing
- Starter: $24/month billed annually or $29 monthly; $5 fee per course enrollment
- Pro Trainer: $79/month billed annually or $99 monthly; no LearnWorlds transaction fee
- Learning Center: $249/month billed annually or $299 monthly; no LearnWorlds transaction fee
- High Volume & Corporate: Custom pricing
- Trial: 30 days
Starter does not allow free courses. Certificates, subscriptions, memberships, detailed progress reports and broader SCORM support require Pro Trainer or higher.
Listed prices exclude VAT. Stripe, PayPal or another payment gateway may charge its own processing fees. Tax tools such as Stripe Tax can assist with calculation and reporting, but creators should confirm their registration, filing and remittance obligations.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where LearnWorlds falls short
- It is too advanced for most creators selling one basic workshop replay.
- Starter charges $5 for every course enrollment.
- Starter cannot be used to offer free courses.
- Many of the features that distinguish LearnWorlds require Pro Trainer or Learning Center.
- Setup is more complex than on Payhip, Gumroad or Podia.
Our verdict
LearnWorlds is strongest when the quality and structure of the learning experience justify a more advanced platform. Its interactive content, assessments and progress controls can support premium courses, but its complexity and enrollment fees make it a poor fit for a simple replay.
Should you choose LearnWorlds?
Choose LearnWorlds if: you are building a premium course or professional training product that needs assessments, certificates, interactive content, SCORM or detailed learner-progress controls.
Skip LearnWorlds if: you are selling one simple recording, want the fastest possible setup, or do not need advanced learning and reporting features.
30-day free trial; no permanent free plan.

8. Eventbrite
Best for live workshop registration and ticket sales, not replay delivery.
Eventbrite at a glance
| Category | Details |
|---|---|
| Best for | Live workshops, webinars, masterclasses and events |
| Starting price | No Eventbrite fee for free events |
| Paid-event fees | Vary by country and payment setup |
| Key strength | Registration, ticketing and attendee management |
| Key limitation | Not designed to host and sell workshop replays |
Why Eventbrite works
- Creates a dedicated registration and ticket-sales page.
- Supports both free and paid live events.
- Helps organizers manage attendees and event communications.
- Can be used for online webinars, live workshops and in-person events.
- Provides a practical first step before turning a recorded session into a separate replay product.
How Eventbrite fits into this comparison
Eventbrite is included as a live-event tool rather than a course platform. It can help sell seats and manage registration before a workshop takes place, but the recording will normally need to be delivered through another platform afterward.
A common setup is Eventbrite for live registration, Zoom or another video tool for the session, and Payhip, Podia or a course platform for the replay.
Eventbrite pricing
- Free events: No Eventbrite service fee
- Paid events: Service and payment-processing fees apply
- United States example: Eventbrite has listed a 3.7% + $1.79 service fee per paid ticket and a 2.9% payment-processing fee per order
These figures should not be presented as global pricing. Eventbrite’s fees can vary by country, ticket type, package and payment setup.
Pricing checked in August 2026.
Where Eventbrite falls short
- It is not a course platform or replay library.
- It does not provide structured lessons or student-progress tracking.
- It is not designed to protect and deliver a paid recording as a long-term product.
- Organizers normally need a second platform after the live event.
- Fees for paid events vary by region and can become significant for lower-priced tickets.
Our verdict
Eventbrite is useful when the main product is a live event. It should be viewed as the registration and ticketing layer, not as the complete system for selling and delivering the workshop recording afterward.
Should you choose Eventbrite?
Choose Eventbrite if: you are primarily selling access to a scheduled live workshop, webinar, masterclass or in-person event and need registration and attendee management.
Skip Eventbrite if: your main product is an on-demand replay, mini-course or structured learning program that buyers should access after purchase.
Free events have no Eventbrite fee; paid-event fees vary by location and payment setup.
🔗 9. YouTube Unlisted + Payment Link
Best used as a temporary workaround or marketing channel, not as a paid-course platform.
Why We Do Not Recommend Unlisted YouTube for Paid Delivery
An unlisted YouTube video can work for a free preview or temporary demand test, but it is not protected paid access. Anyone with the link can watch and reshare it, and YouTube does not connect payment with continued customer access.
For a serious paid replay, use Payhip or another platform that connects checkout, customer access and product delivery. YouTube is better used for previews and audience building than as the delivery system for a premium product.
Real Cost Examples
The examples below compare published platform fees and the lowest relevant subscription plan for each option. They exclude payment-processing fees, VAT, sales tax, refunds, chargebacks and currency-conversion costs.
For platforms priced annually, the table shows the monthly equivalent of the annual plan. This does not represent the actual upfront payment, which may require paying for the full year. These figures are estimates, not a complete calculation of your total selling costs.
Example: $49 mini-course × 30 sales
This example assumes $1,470 in gross monthly revenue from 30 buyers. It compares the lowest relevant plan for each platform before payment processing, taxes, refunds and chargebacks.
| Platform and plan | Fee model used | Estimated platform cost |
|---|---|---|
| Systeme.io Free | $0 monthly + 0% platform fee | $0.00 |
| Thinkific Basic | $40/month billed annually + no platform transaction fee when using Thinkific Payments | $40.00 |
| Payhip Free | $0 monthly + 5% | $73.50 |
| Podia Mover | $42/month billed annually + 5% | $115.50 |
| Teachable Starter | $29/month billed annually + 7.5% | $139.25 |
| Gumroad direct sale | 10% + $0.50 per transaction | $162.00 |
| LearnWorlds Starter | $24/month billed annually + $5 per enrollment | $174.00 |
Podia, Teachable, Thinkific and LearnWorlds prices above use their monthly equivalent when billed annually. Choosing annual billing normally requires paying for the full year, so the actual upfront cost will be higher than the monthly figure shown here.
What this comparison means
- Systeme.io Free has the lowest platform cost, but its learning experience is less advanced.
- Thinkific Basic has a relatively low platform cost for structured courses, although it requires a paid subscription and annual billing for the displayed rate.
- Payhip Free is inexpensive for simple replay sales without a subscription.
- Podia and Teachable cost more because they include broader course, student and sales tools.
- Gumroad has a higher direct-sale fee but includes global Merchant of Record tax handling.
- LearnWorlds Starter becomes expensive at 30 enrollments because of its $5 enrollment fee.
Cost alone should not determine the choice. A platform with a lower fee may still be the wrong option if the product requires certificates, advanced assessments, email automation or a polished student experience.
Other Platforms Worth Knowing
The following platforms may suit specific business models, but they are not the strongest general choices for selling a first workshop replay or mini-course.
| Platform | Consider it when | Main caution |
|---|---|---|
| Udemy | You want access to an existing course marketplace | Less control over pricing, branding and the direct student relationship |
| Skillshare | You want exposure through a subscription-based learning marketplace | Earnings and student access depend on Skillshare’s marketplace model |
| Kajabi | You run an established creator business and want courses, funnels, email and marketing tools together | Usually too expensive and complex for testing one workshop replay |
| Digistore24 or ClickBank | Affiliate-driven promotion is central to your sales strategy | Less focused on delivering a warm, polished student experience |
| Circle or Mighty Networks | Community and ongoing membership are central to the product | More community-focused than a simple replay-selling setup |
| Uscreen | You are building a paid video library, subscription or OTT-style business | More platform than most workshop sellers need |
| Vimeo | You need professional video hosting or embedding | Does not provide a complete checkout and course-management system by itself |
| Lemon Squeezy | You need Merchant of Record-style checkout for software or certain digital products | Not a dedicated course platform or structured learning environment |
These options become more relevant when the business model depends on marketplace discovery, affiliate distribution, community, video subscriptions or a premium all-in-one marketing system. For a straightforward workshop recording or mini-course, the platforms reviewed earlier are generally more practical starting points.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Selling a Workshop Recording
Selling a workshop recording can be simple, but the wrong platform or delivery setup can create unnecessary costs, manual work and a weaker buyer experience. Avoid these mistakes before choosing how to sell and deliver your product.
1. Treating an unlisted YouTube link as protected access
An unlisted video is not a secure paid-product system. Anyone with the link can watch and reshare it. Use it only as a temporary test, not as the long-term delivery method for a premium replay or course.
2. Choosing a full course platform before validating demand
A dedicated LMS can provide a better learning experience, but it may be unnecessary for a first $29 replay. Start with the level of structure the product needs today, then upgrade when demand or course complexity justifies the additional cost.
3. Choosing a platform based only on the lowest fee
A lower platform fee does not automatically create a better business. Consider checkout, tax handling, student access, email follow-up and the time required to manage several separate tools. The cheapest platform can become expensive if it creates extra manual work.
4. Ignoring what happens after the purchase
Buyers need clear access instructions, confirmation emails and reliable support. A strong setup should also help you request feedback, deliver bonus resources and introduce future products without forcing you to manage every customer manually.
5. Selling a long recording as if it were already a course
A two-hour workshop recording is not automatically a mini-course. To create a stronger learning product, divide the recording into shorter lessons, remove unnecessary pauses, add a workbook and give buyers a clear sequence of actions.
Final Recommendation
The best platform is not the one with the longest feature list. It is the one that matches the product you are selling now without creating unnecessary cost or complexity.
- For one simple workshop replay: Choose Payhip for lower platform fees and straightforward delivery. Consider Gumroad if fast setup and global Merchant of Record tax handling are more important than minimizing transaction fees.
- For a polished mini-course: Choose Podia when you want course delivery, checkout, a website and basic email tools in one creator-friendly platform.
- For a structured course business: Choose Thinkific for stronger curriculum and learning-path tools, or Teachable for structured courses combined with broader sales and student-management features.
- For funnels and email automation: Choose Systeme.io when the workshop is part of a funnel, email sequence, upsell or coaching offer.
- For advanced learning experiences: Choose LearnWorlds when you need assessments, certificates, interactive content, SCORM or detailed learner-progress controls.
- For live workshop ticketing: Use Eventbrite for registration and ticket sales, then deliver the replay through a separate platform after the event.
Still unsure?
If you are testing your first simple replay, Payhip is the lowest-risk starting point. If you already know that presentation and student experience matter, Podia is the stronger middle-ground option. If the recording is becoming a structured learning product, start with Thinkific or Teachable instead of planning a difficult migration later.
Choose for the product you have today, but check that the platform leaves a realistic path for the product you want to build next.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sell a workshop recording without a course platform?
Yes. One recording with a PDF, workbook or slide deck can be sold through a lightweight tool such as Payhip or Gumroad. A dedicated course platform becomes more useful when you need structured lessons, progress tracking, quizzes, certificates or a student dashboard.
Is Payhip or Gumroad better for workshop replays?
Payhip usually has lower platform fees and is a strong choice for a simple replay or downloadable bundle. Gumroad charges more, but its Merchant of Record model handles global sales-tax collection and remittance. Choose based on whether lower fees or simpler international tax handling matters more to your business.
Should I choose Podia, Teachable or Thinkific for a mini-course?
Choose Podia for a polished mini-course with website, checkout and basic email tools in one platform. Choose Teachable when you want structured courses combined with broader selling and student-management features. Choose Thinkific when curriculum structure, lesson formats and student progress are the main priorities.
What is the cheapest way to sell a workshop recording?
For platform fees alone, Systeme.io Free can cost $0 if its limits fit your needs, while Payhip Free charges 5% without a monthly subscription. However, payment-processing fees still apply, and the cheapest platform may not provide the delivery or student experience your product needs.
Can I sell a paid course using an unlisted YouTube video?
You can use an unlisted video as a temporary test, but it is not protected paid access. Anyone with the link can watch and reshare it. For a serious paid product, use a platform that connects checkout, customer access and product delivery.
Can I move from Payhip or Gumroad to a course platform later?
You can usually move videos, PDFs, sales-page copy and customer email addresses manually. Student progress, completion records, comments, community activity and some purchase data may not transfer cleanly. Starting simple is reasonable, but avoid delaying a course platform if you already know you need structured learning features.
What is the best setup for a live workshop and its replay?
Use Eventbrite or another ticketing tool for live registration, a video-conferencing platform for the session, and a separate product or course platform for the replay. Payhip can suit a simple recording, while Podia, Teachable or Thinkific are better when the replay becomes a structured mini-course.
Which platform should I use if affiliates will promote my course?
Payhip and Systeme.io both include affiliate-management tools without requiring a paid plan. Payhip lets sellers approve affiliates, assign products and commission rates, and track affiliate sales, but sellers must handle affiliate payouts themselves. Systeme.io’s free plan includes one affiliate program. Podia, Teachable and LearnWorlds provide affiliate-management features on selected paid plans. Digistore24 and ClickBank may be more suitable when access to an existing affiliate marketplace is central to the sales strategy, although they are less focused on the student experience.
